How do I reconnect my internet after an outage? Belong

Reconnecting your internet after an nbn outage

After an nbn outage, whether planned or unplanned, there’s a couple of things you need to do to make sure your internet gets shipshape again.
What you need to do depends on the kind of nbn connection you have – but in all cases it basically amounts to unplugging your nbn connection box (if you have one), unplugging your modem, waiting 2–5 minutes and then plugging them all back in again

Don’t know your nbn connection type?

If you’re not sure what kind of nbn connection you have,
you can find out here.

FTTN (fibre to the node) and FTTB (fibre to the building)

  • Unplug your modem, wait 2–5 minutes and then plug it back in again.
  • It’ll take a few minutes for your modem to reconnect to the internet.

FTTC (fibre to the curb)

  • Unplug your portable nbn connection box.
  • Unplug your modem.
  • Wait 2–5 minutes and then plug both devices back in again.
  • It’ll take a few minutes for your modem to reconnect to the internet.

HFC (hybrid fibre coaxial)

  • Unplug your portable nbn connection box.
  • Unplug your modem.
  • Wait 2–5 minutes and then plug both devices back in again.
  • It’ll take a few minutes for your modem to reconnect to the internet.

FTTP (fibre to the premises)

  • Turn off the power point at the wall that leads to your nbn connection box or backup battery unit.
  • If you have a backup battery unit, disconnect the power cord running from it into the nbn connection box. (If there’s a cover on your nbn connection box, you’ll need to remove it first.)
  • Unplug your modem.
  • Wait 2–5 minutes, then plug both devices back in and turn the power back on.
  • It’ll take a few minutes for your modem to reconnect to the internet.

Still no internet?

If you haven’t got internet access after restarting your modem, something else might causing the problem – it’s time to troubleshoot your internet connection.
